Chapter 2

“Mama…” Meher yelled entering inside, leaving the luggage at the door steps. “I am back..” She continued and took off her goggles.

“Uffoo.. The speaker is back Mom..” She heard her brother Rishab's voice and looked back to see him lying on the sofa, playing games.

She threw the handbag at him before running off to her mother's room.

“Meher…..” Rishab yelled before picking up his phone and looking at the screen which showed ‘game over’.

He stood up and ran behind her.. “Wait you little brat..” He was just about to catch her when she opened her mother's room door with a bang and entered inside.

“What the hell–” Suman asked flinching when Meher hid behind her.

“Mama.. Rishab bhaiya is troubling me again..” She whined. Rishab tried to get his hands on her. “Oh really.. Mom, move away from her.” He said.

“No no no..” Meher said, clutching her mother's shoulder more tightly. “Enough..” Suman said, putting a stop to their nonsense.

“Rishab, you are older, at least you don't behave like a child.” Suman said, looking at Meher. “What do you mean? Do I behave like a child?” Meher asked, offended.

“When did I say that?” Suman asked chickling and Rishab showed her his tongue before going out. “whatever..” Meher said and went towards the bed before sprawling on it like a starfish.

“Hey.. Go and wash up first.” Her mother said pulling her up. “No.. I want to rest..”

“Then go to your room..” Suman said sitting beside her. Meher just smiled and lied down on her lap and sighed in relief.

“Are you tired?” Her mother asked, trailing her fingers in her hair. “Very..” She replied. “You should change and eat before sleeping.” Suman said.

“I will..” Meher said but her eyes dropped before she even knew.

Suman shook her head in affection looking at her daughter.

Meher is youngest in her family, has two older brothers, Surya and Rishab, followed by four cousins, her father's brother's children Vihaan, Anay and Avani and one father's sister son Kunal. Mehar is 23 years old.

Surya and Rishab work in their father's company, Vihaan is an artitecture, Anay is doing masters along with Avani as they were twins. And Kunal is a CA just like Mehar and his mother.

Meher is loved by everyone, more like spoiled because of her being the youngest.

Mehar is more close to Kunal and Rishab. With others, the relationship is good but not that frank.

It was already night and Suman was in the kitchen preparing dishes for her daughter, when Priya entered inside. “Bhabhi.. What are you doing?” She asked, leaning against the kitchen counter.

“Making Meher’s favorite.” she replied. “Ohh she is back?” She asked, surprised. “Yes.. I thought you knew she was going to come today.” Suman chuckled.

“I know, it's just slipped my mind. Do you want any help?” Priya asked quickly, taking the spare apron. Suman just nodded her head.

“Why are you both in the kitchen?” Rajan Malhotra, the head of the family asked, standing at the doorstep of the kitchen.

“Ohh papa, you scared us..” Suman said, flinching. Priya laughed at her before replying. “Meher came today, so she was just preparing a meal for her, and I just came to help her. Do you want something papa?” Priya asked.

“You could have asked the cook..” He said, shaking his head. “It's okay papa, I like to cook for my children.” Suman replied.

“Hello—”

“I told you to not call me..” Meher said feeling irritated. She rubbed her forehead in frustration.

“But at least listen–”

“No.. I don't want to talk to you right now, please.” Meher said, closing her eyes.

“Are you still angry??”

“Is that even a question? I am angry at you, so don't call me please.. Otherwise I will block you.” She threatened.

“I am sor–”

But Mehar cut the call before the other person could complete their sentence.

“Why are you calling me now.. Hmmppp..” Meher rolled her eyes and huffed. “I will not talk to you, then you will understand my worth.” She mumbled to herself before switching off her phone.

Knock knock

She looked behind and saw Priya standing there. “Hello Meher..” She said, “hello aunty.. Where were you?” Meher asked, going towards her.

“I went to a charity event and just came back in the evening and before you say something, in my defense no one told me that you are back.” Priya said, chuckling.

“Okay okay, I am not getting angry, don't worry..” Meher said smiling.

“Uff I forgot, I came to call you for dinner, come on..” Priya said, taking her hand and dragging her outside.

“Is papa home?” Meher asked, descending the stairs. Priya nodded her head. “Yes everyone is at home except Ma..” Priya replied.

“Grandma? Where did she go?” Meher asked. “I don't know to be honest, you know how she is. Never tell a soul where she is going or what she is doing.” Priya sighed. Meher just nodded her head, because yes.. Her grandma is weird, she is not that friendly like the rest of the elders.

They came into the dining hall and Meher practically ran to her grandpa. “Hello dadu.. I missed you.” She said hugging him.

Rajan smiled brightly and patted her head. “I missed you too.. How are you?” He asked softly. “I am all good, see fit and fine.” She said, showing off her arms muscles.

Rajan laughed at her antics, “looks like someone doesn't miss me..” She heard her father's voice and chuckled at him. “You know I did papa..” She said and hugged him as well.

“Please sit down now, I have some work. So let's eat.” They all heard Surya's voice. Meher gave him a small smile and sat down.

“Meher~~~ my baby..” They all heard a cheerful voice and looked towards the door to find her aunt Anjali coming towards her followed by Kunal.

Meher's face was again brightly lit seeing her fav aunt. She jumped off her seat and tackled her into a hug.

“Ohh god, I missed you so so so much..” She said practically swinging.

“Yeah yeah.. I missed you too..” Anjali patted her cheeks and sat on the assigned chair.

“Should we start?”

It was early morning when a loud knock disturbed Arjun’s sleep. He groaned, turning to the other side. “Arjun bhaiya.. Wake up…” he heard Rhea’s voice outside.

He stood up and opened the door before going towards his bed again.

“Why so early Rhea? It's..it's 5 in the morning.” Arjun said, yawning. Rhea nodded her head. “I know but have you forgotten that the breakfast will be served by 6. Go and freshen up.” She said..

“I know.. Thanks for waking me up.” He said taking out his clothes and going inside the attached bathroom.

Arjun sat on his assigned chair beside his father on the dining table. All of the family members were there except Rhea, Ishita and Nakul.

Nakul was the youngest in the family. He is the only son of his uncle Pratap.

Arjun looked around and then to his aunt. “Meena aunt.. Where is the little one..” He asked. “Nakul?” She asked.

Arjun nodded his head. “I don't know–” “Arjun bhaiya…” Just then they heard a loud voice and turned around to see Nakul running down the stairs.

Arjun smiled and stood up just as Nakul hugged him. “I missed you..”

“I missed you more.” Arjun said and pulled out a chair for him to sit. He sat down eagerly and looked at his mother expectantly.

Meena rolled her eyes and went towards him before tugging a napkin around his collar and served him food.

Nakul was a special child, he is 19 years old with a mind of 5 years old. Doctors said there is little to no chance of him being healthy.

Arjun and his brother Dev adore him the most. While Meena doesn't really like how she gave birth to a child like that as she had listened to so much taunts from her in-laws along with her own husband because of him.

“Thank… you..” He said in a small voice when he got a glare from his mother. He pouted and looked down.

“Eat up..” Arjun said, Nakul looked at him and nodded, picking up his spoon and taking a bite only to drop it on the napkin.

Rajveer, his grandfather, rolled his eyes and looked at Meena. “How many times have I said that he will not eat with us?” he said in an angry tone.

“Dadu.. Why angry?” Nakul asked, tilting his head. “Shut up, I am not talking to you.” Nakul looked down sadly.

“Grandpa, it's alright. Don't scold him.” Arjun said and looked around. “Where is Ishita?” He asked.

“In the kitchen, why do you need something..?” Meena asked. “No.. Nothing.” He said, shaking his head.

Arjun took the spoon from Nakul 's hands and started to feed him. “Good for nothing.” Pratap said and stood up, leaving from there.

After breakfast, most of them left for their work while Rhea was waiting for the driver to bring the car to go to her college.

“Come I will drop you.” Arjun said. “Ohh really, okay.” Rhea said and followed her.

“Where are you going?” They stopped hearing another voice.

It was Ishita.

She was standing there with a small bag in her hand. She looked at Rhea and then back at Arjun.

“Are you going out?” She asked quietly. Arjun nodded his head. “Yeah, dropping her to college..why?” He asked.

“Umm can you drop me to the city mall?” She asked. “Yeah sure.” Arjun said and motioned her to sit.

Rhea sat on the front followed by Ishita who sat on the back seat.

“I also wanted to go shopping.” Rhea whined. “But I can't miss classes.” She sighed as well.

“It's okay, we will go in the evening.” Arjun said and looked at the mirror to Ishita.

“Are you going to buy something?” He asked. Ishita shook her head. “No.. Meeting a friend there.” She said, looking out of the window.

Arjun nodded his head. “Then we all can go in the evening to a shopping spree.. What's say?” Arjun asked.

Rhea cheered excitedly while Ishita also nodded her head. “Sure..” She said.

Meher came into her parents room and saw her father getting ready for office.

“Papa..” She called out. Her father turned around and smiled at her. “Come in.. Why are you standing at the door?” He asked.

“Actually I wanted to go shopping..” She said, “I don't have many clothes left, and what will I wear when I join the office?” She asked.

“Hmm.. Why are you asking me.. Go ahead.” he said, chuckling. “No, I want to go with you.” she said sitting on the bed.

“I can't go right now, Misthi..” He said sadly. “Why??” She whined. “I have a few meetings lined up dear, they are important.” He said.

“Important than me??” Meher asked, making her eyes big. Her father chuckled. “No.. Not as important as you.” He said.. “Then??” She asked hopefully.

“What about in the evening??” He tried to negotiate. Meher thought for a moment and then nodded her okay.

“Okay.. But be early and don't forget.” Meher said.

“Ofc.. Now go and ask your mother that I am asking for her.” He said.

“You ain't gonna complain about me. Are you?” Meher narrowed her eyes. Her father just shook his head in amusement.

“You better not..” She said and went out.
